Meghan - What in the world is a 24 year-old pro-sex woman???

Meghan McCain is certainly capitalizing on her father's fame and her last name in the last few months. It seems like every day this articulate and attractive 24 year old is in the news talking about how to fix politics in general and the Republican party in particular. I haven't personally seen any of these interviews, but I have read some excerpts, the latest of which made me laugh. In this interview with Stephen Colbert, she was addressing the issue of gay marriage, sexuality and abstinence education.
Though I didn't read the entire transcript, it seems that she took Bristol Palin to task for encouraging abstinence only education for teenagers. As you remember, Bristol became pregnant as a 16 year-old and is now a 17 year-old single mom after a very public break up with her boyfriend, Levi Johnston. Since that time, Levi has been continuously and willfully exploited by the news media for his take on this teenage breakup. So now Bristol finds herself in a very good position to see the real effects of teenage sex and she is saying it is not such a great idea. Yet Meghan McCain wants to disagree with her on this point and say that the Republican party can't take a stand like this because it will be very unpopular with younger voters and thus cost them votes. Besides, she added, "abstinence is not realistic for this generation." Then I read this line and I just knew I had to blog on this or else I would explode. The final line of the excerpt simply says, "It [the Republican party] can be a party for a 24 year-old pro-sex woman. It can be," McCain said.
OK, can someone please tell me exactly what it means to be a 24 year-old pro-sex woman? Is that a woman who is for sex at anytime with anyone? I think we have another name for that type of woman, don't we? Sorry for the sarcasm, but really? Are we now going to call those in favor of abstinence before marriage 'anti-sex'? The whole reason for abstinence before marriage is to secure for ourselves and our spouses great sex and lots of it for the 50 years following marriage!!! The research on this is so clear as to be irrefutable. Abstinence before marriage produces couples who have the most sex and the best sex and the lowest divorce rates, period. Why? Because great sex has its foundation in trust and mutual respect, not in freedom and physique.
The whole art of political debate is about capturing the right terminology in which to frame your argument and this is a clear, yet laughable, example of that. Meghan has proclaimed that she is a 24 year-old pro-sex unmarried woman, the perfect dream of every 24 year-old pro-sex male and the nightmare of every 44 year-old father! Now she wants the Republican party to brand itself as the party of 'free sex'. That branding would be popular with young Americans no doubt, and popular with many older ones as well, with the exception of those that have 24 year old unmarried children. Here are some other examples of this political terminology posturing. No one is pro-abortion in our world, they are simply pro-choice. No one is indiscriminately immoral with multiple people of both genders, they are simply bisexual. No one is seeking to redefine or destroy marriage, they are simply seeking equal rights.
It doesn't take a sociologist to see the carnage that has happened in our country since the sexual revolution of the 60's, and the vast majority of that pain is felt by women and children. Have you seen the pain and the emotional scarring of our young ladies as they are sexualized and objectified in our culture more and more (anorexia, bulimia, cutting, trust issues in marriage, post-abortion guilt/depression, forays into lesbianism looking for intimacy, etc., etc.)? I know you have seen the pain of our children, 34% of which are born without a father in the home and 50% of which are eventually raised without their father, all due to the 'free sex' doctrine. This is a pretty big price for children to pay in order to enjoy a season of indiscriminate immorality as a pro-sex 24 year-old, is it not? No, I would prefer a pro-marriage 24 year-old who understands that great sex is a part of the marriage package, and when sex is removed from its rightful place in marriage it starts off with a bang, but it ends with a thud, often the thud of a gavel against the desk of a family court judge.
That is the message of Bristol Palin, who is living it out experientially. And by the way, Bristol IS well qualified to talk about abstinence education for teenagers. We don't need perfect people to tell us the truth. As a matter of fact, it is always easier to hear the truth from imperfect, yet honest, people like Bristol. Otherwise, the drug addict could never tell us not to take drugs and the murderer could never tell us not to murder.
So Meghan, check back in with me in about 15 years when you have had your first child and let me know if you are going to raise him or her to be pro-sex or pro-marriage . . . . and let me know if you are still pro-sex at 39. The only bright spot in this equation is the fact that Meghan can't run for President until she is at least 35 years old!
