Church isn't all about Sunday
Monday, March 9, 2009 at 10:24AM RADIUS AT WORKThis past weekend our church really reflected our core values by getting out and being a blessing to our community. On Friday night, we had 6 guys set up and provide an outdoor movie for the PTA at Pleasant Hill Elementary School. They wanted to do this event for their students and teachers so they called to ask if we could help. It was a lot of fun for us and our families, as well as for about 200 others who showed up for the movie, popcorn, pizza and other goodies.
Then, on Saturday, we had another group of guys go to a local mobile home and do a lot of work to bless an elderly lady in our community. They worked to unclog her plumbing, built her a wheelchair ramp and did some other odds and ends. This lady was 87 years old and we found out about her situation through a local hospice agency.
Both of these projects were of benefit to our community and they really reflect the purposes of our church, to make our community a better place.
In our culture, there is a lot of emphasis on excellence in the Sunday morning worship services. We also value Sunday mornings and try to do a good job with worship, preaching, hospitality, etc. However, if a church just does a good job on Sunday morning and isn't involved in activities like the ones above, I consider it to be a waste! Our primary calling is to worship God, but we worship Him when we obey Him and live as His ambassadors in a world that desperately needs us to be 'rich in good deeds.'
On weeks like this I am especially proud to be a pastor at Radius Church.
