God the Oncologist

If you were at Radius this past Sunday you heard my illustration of God being our diving oncologist that benevolently points out and removes the 'rogue' cancer cells in our body. We have to remember this when God is poking and proding our souls and pointing out our apathy, our greed, our lust, our pride, etc. This process can be painful, just like surgery or radiation treatments, but it is ultimately for our good, for these rogue attitudes and actions are never satisfied and only want to destroy us.
It was cool to get feedback this week from some folks at the service who followed along with the illustration and have already told me how they are expunging the 'rogue' cells in their lives. One person wrote the following, "I recently broke up with my boyfriend . . . . and I was having a really hard time getting over it. Then I heard your sermon and realized that he was my rogue cell. I knew deep down that God didn't want me to be with him, but yet I was still hanging on...I was miserable, but I was hanging on. God has a funny way of making you miserable until you get a "PET scan" and let him remove the rogue cells. After your sermon...it was almost instantly that I was like..."i'm being stupid...I know that God doesn't want me to be with him...so stop pouting and move on with your life, because when I do find that person I am going to be way happier then I ever was."
What about you . . . are you dealing with the rogue cells in your life? I think they are always going to be there, but if we do battle with them at the cell level instead of waiting until they are full blown tumors, we can keep them beat down and they won't lead us into pain and difficulty. But if we choose to relax and let them multiply unhindered, they can do incredible damage to our lives, to our families, and to the reputation of our God. Yes, there is a lot at stake, so vigilence is in order.
