What is radius all about?

A Brief History of Radius Church, Lexington

In 2003 the Holy Spirit drew John & Cheryl Reeves, and Jeremiah Jones to the Columbia area. John & Jeremiah began working with two core groups - one meeting in Lexington and the other at Jammin Javain in downtown. Then, in January of 2005, these core groups became one family to launch what is now Radius Church.  From day one, it has been our desire to free people up to embrace God and engage in genuine life transformation.

In 2006, we multiplied ourselves by sending John Reeves and his family to plant Radius Greenville, which is now a growing and healthy church. Then, in 2007, we multiplied ourselves again by sending Chris and Kristina Alford to the Tri Cities area of Johnson City, TN to plant Radius Tri Cities. As you can tell, we are passionate about planting new churches whereever God opens the door because we believe every new church has the potential to radically transform the lives of real people.

In the fall of 2008, God brought Todd Carnes to RadiusChurch to serve as pastor and in June, 2009, John Reeves and family was sent out once again to plant RadiusChurch in Austin, TX.  Now we are working diligently to build this church into a missional community that has real impact on everything and everybody in its 'Radius'. We invite you to come and join us in the journey.

Who we are
Radius is a church of normal, everyday people who desire to connect people to each other and to God. To us, church is followers of Christ living their lives together. We chose the name Radius because we believe that as followers of Jesus we are to impact our personal "radiuses".

What we believe

"In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love."
-St. Augustine

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Mission/Vision

RADIUS CHURCH VISION 2012 – THE POWER OF ONE

Radius Church believes we should live out the values embedded throughout Jesus’ teachings, and those values are generally focused on the immeasurable blessings available to us through extravagant giving and personal sacrifice. In order to translate these values into the DNA of our church, we have cast the following vision for the next 3 years . . . . this is who we are and therefore, this is what we must do.

  1. Extravagant Generosity - ONE million dollars freely given to others
  2. Transformational Community - ONE hundred small groups transforming lives
  3. Unceasing Expansion - ONE new church planted in the Midlands

What we value

Worship
We believe that worship goes far beyond our corporate time together on Sunday mornings. We believe that a life of worship begins with a personal relationship with Jesus. As in any relationship it requires two-way communication. God speaks to us through His Word (the Bible) and we speak to God in prayer. These two disciplines are the foundation for a life of worship.

Family
Our value of family is centered on our belief that a life of faith cannot be lived alone, but was / is meant to be lived in community with other followers of Jesus.

Serving

Jesus teaches us that in order to be the greatest, you must be a servant. At Radius we take that teaching very seriously. We believe that we are to serve our neighbors and our city. It is our hope that through our service, the city of Columbia will begin to see the radical love of Jesus incarnated through us.

Inviting
Inviting means more than just inviting friends, neighbors and co-workers to join us on Sunday mornings at Radius. We believe that it means also inviting them into our own story and, most importantly, into God's story through a relationship with Jesus.
